The Clock Tower: A Nostalgic Retreat

Reviving Old Memories through Innovative Design

Designed by nexus design integrated, The Clock Tower is a unique restaurant and bar that takes inspiration from old colonial British schools in the Himalayan regions of India. This award-winning design is a testament to the power of architecture and design in evoking nostalgia and fostering connections.

The Clock Tower, located in Gurgaon, India, is not just a restaurant and bar; it's a place designed for friends to meet and cherish golden times spent together. The design team, led by Devesh Bhatia, Pratyay Chakrabarti, Kamal Kishore, and Sawran Singh, took on the challenge of transforming an old, dilapidated building into a space that exudes warmth and tradition.

The design of The Clock Tower is unique in its theme and execution. The designers wanted to create a space that reminded visitors of an old school nestled in the Himalayan hills. To achieve this, they used traditional Indian quartz stone and wood, and treated the walls with a mix of white and grey cement. The result is a space that not only looks like a colonial Victorian school but also feels like one.

The transformation of the building involved significant structural changes. The entire first floor was knocked out to create a grand double-height space on the ground floor. The stairwell was redesigned to start as a straight leg and then double up in a dog-legged format for the upper floor and the terrace. Balcony areas were added on the second floor for outdoor seating and smoking, and new terraces were added on the top floor to create unified yet private areas.

The designers paid attention to every detail to ensure that the building truly reflected the essence of an old colonial school. The exterior of the building was clad in Indian quartz stone and pure cement moldings. The flooring on the ground floor is a mix of red and black oxide cement floor along with a checkered marble pattern, while the first floor has a wooden floor. The terrace is done in cobble stone and kota stone flooring. All the walls are finished with neat cement punning unpainted, and wood ceiling has been used on all floors.

The Clock Tower is a testament to the power of design in creating experiences. It's not just a place to eat and drink; it's a place to relive old memories and create new ones. The design of The Clock Tower has been recognized with a Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2017, a testament to the creativity and professionalism of the design team.
